The trail has lots to look at and amazing coastal views once you get near the top. The Kanan Dume Road to Mishe Mokwa is a moderately trafficked 15 mile section of the Backbone Trail located just outside of Malibu, California and about an hour's drive from Los Angeles. The trail features wildflowers, waterfalls, wooded canyons and stunning vistas and is popular amongst hikers, trail runners, backpackers, and mountain bikers. The full loop will be a little over 6 miles of hiking with about 1600 feet of elevation gain. If you're going to do the full loop, we'd recommend starting the hike from the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead, explore Tri-Peaks (an additional 1 mile roundtrip), check out Sandstone Peak, and then complete the loop along the Backbone Trail.
