Ballon/Rathoe, Bennekerry/Tinryland and Tullow/Grange carried the flags. It was an action-packed 2 days which saw county medals going to all areas. Hacketstow were awarded the Hosey Cup for best area, closely followed by Rathvilly, Bennekerry/Tinryland and Slaney Valley who had tremedous success over the weekend. An old thatched church in the townland of Bennekerry, dated 1700, was used prior to St Mary's. The granite stone for the present building came from the quarry at Graigalug. The Blessed Sacrament was first reserved in St Mary's c. 1930. The burial ground at the earlier church was used until 1976. Buried here is Fr John O'Neill who, in 1798 Bennekerry/Tinryland pressed Old Leighlin's kick out which led to point by Ruth Bermingham making it 3 points to 0. Bennekerry /Tinryland certainly looked to lay down a marker in the opening minutes. A shot by Aoibhinn Gilmartin hit the underside of the cross bar and some how stayed out.
