Maghull. Maghull was an ancient settlement set on a ridge of high ground, named in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Magele. The name Maghull may have originated from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning 'land where mayseed grows' The area (approximately six square miles) consisted of agricultural land. Over the centuries the manor has been owned by Maghull (/ m ə ˈ ɡ ʌ l / mə-GUL) is a town and civil parish in Sefton, Merseyside (historically a part of Lancashire).The town is north of Liverpool and west of Kirkby.The area also contains Ashworth Hospital.. Maghull had a population of 20,444 at the 2011 Census. Housing in the town is almost entirely a 20th-century settlement of semi-detached and detached housing although remains of The succession is again uncertain; but in March, 1462-3 John Maghull, chaplain, granted to his brother Nicholas all tenements in Maghull; the latter was son and heir of Thomas of the Carr. the name being absent from the list of recusants in the parish. Richard Maghull purchased some property in Liverpool in 1560, and soon afterwards sold St Andrews Church of England Primary School, Maghull is a Church of England academy. It has about 250 boys and girls aged between 4 and 11. In October 2022 the school was rated 'Good' by Ofsted. The present school opened in 2018. This school is a member of Liverpool Diocesan Schools Trust. St Andrew's was founded in 1839 and there still remains the old Victorian building which now houses our Year 6 classrooms.
