The population of Escrick township rose from 406 in 1801 to 717 in 1831, declined to 589 in 1881, briefly recovered to 653 in 1891, and stood at 544 in 1901. It was 597 in 1911 and 1921, but thereafter fell to 443 in 1961, before the village began to be developed.
