Yesler Terrace is a 30-acre site near downtown Seattle that was developed by SHA in the early 1940's as the city's first publicly subsidized housing. When it became evident in recent years that infrastructure and 561 aging housing units needed to be replaced, SHA began a conversation with residents and community stakeholders about the future of Planning for Yesler Terrace redevelopment formally began in April 2006 when the Seattle Housing Authority hired staff to manage the planning effort and begin recruiting members of a Citizen Review Committee (CRC). The first meeting of the Citizen Review Committee, chaired by former Seattle Mayor Norman B. Rice, took place on October 25, 2006. SEATTLE, Wash. (July 29, 2022) - Vulcan Real Estate announced today that construction is beginning on Cascara, its fourth and largest residential community at Yesler. The project will contain 345 rental apartment homes in the growing Yesler neighborhood east of Interstate-5 and the Seattle Central Business District.Yesler Terrace has had problems, too, smaller-scale ones, but it has also generated a lot of good feeling and nostalgia. But because the buildings are 70 years old and in need of repairs, and Seattle's Yesler Terrace neighborhood is gearing up for two major additions in the coming years as two new residential towers near the end of Seattle's design review process. Proposed by Su Development, the towers will rise 21 stories and 23 stories, totaling more than 327,000 square feet and 354 residential units. Redevelopment of Yesler Terrace provided an opportunity to create a master plan for the community that . updates infrastructure and adds carefully thought out elements that will inspire social, physical and artistic . interaction among not only residents of Yesler but a wide range of citizens and visitors to Seattle.
