The Palestinian autonomy talks was an outgrowth of the Egypt-Israel peace treaty and were designed to lead to a resolution of the Palestinian nationalism in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. According to The Framework for Peace in the Middle East, one part of the 1978 Camp David Accords, Egypt and Israel were to agree within one year on elections Ambassador Sol Linowitz, a Cornell Law School graduate, served as a Special Negotiator in the Middle East from 1979 to 1981, as ambassador to the Organization of American States in the late 60s, and as co-negotiator of the Panama Canal Treaties. In this special forum held at Monticello, ambassador Linowitz gives thorough insight into the Middle East, discussing the Palestinian problem, the Diaries, correspondence, speeches, writings, reports, notes, interviews, oral history transcripts, biographical material, legal files, organizational records, travel files, clippings, printed matter, scrapbooks, photographs, and other papers documenting Linowitz's career as an attorney chiefly with Sutherland and Sutherland in Rochester, N.Y., and with Coudert Brothers international law firm Mr. Linowitz returned to Rochester after the war to practice law. He became vice president and general counsel of Xerox Corp. in 1946. From 1961 to 1966, he was chairman of the board of Xerox Corp. From October 1966 until May 1969, Mr. Linowitz was U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States and U.S. Representative on the Inter The death of Sol M. Linowitz, the international lawyer and diplomat who served as President Jimmy Carter's ambassador-at-large, negotiating the Panama Canal treaties and Middle East peace agreements, is being met with sadness on the Cornell University campus. Linowitz died March 18 at his home in Washington, D.C.
