For his first major campaign outside the South, Martin Luther King, Jr. came to Chicago in 1966 to fight discriminatory housing practices, a manifestation of the less blatant but equally pernicious racism of the North.While that campaign ultimately proved disappointing, it helped lead to the passage of the Fair Housing Act in Congress two years later, on April 11, 1968 - 50 years ago today.
