In October 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy's Grid Deployment Office selected Southline Transmission Project as part of a $1.3 billion commitment to improve electric transmission lines through the Transmission Facilitation Program. Black Forest Partners and GU Southline LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Grid United, are co-developing SOUTHLINE TRANSMISSION PROJECT. The Southline Transmission Project is a proposed transmission line designed to collect and transmit electricity across southern New Mexico and southern Arizona. The project will consist of two segments: A new 240-mile, 345-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line between the existing substations at Afton, New Mexico, and Apache, Arizona. The proposed Project would be categorized under the "temporary or permanent facilities for commercial purposes" and would therefore be subject to Section 302 of the FLPMA. Table J-1 below is a listing of all of the land use authorizations that would be intersected by the proposed project's land use analysis area.
