FK Artist - Arnis Balčus. Arnis Balcus (1978) is a Latvian photographer, editor of FK Magazine and director of Riga Photomonth.His exhibition Exhibition After Exhibition will be on view at the Latvian Museum of Photography from 27 September to 28 October. Balcus, who is known for addressing such subjects as Latvian identity, Soviet legacy and Latvian-Russian relationships in his works, in Photographer Arnis Balcus has been exploring Latvian identity for almost a decade. Since studying in London gave him a chance to look at his native country from a distance, he's been following the shift in the national mindset and carefully studying the language, environment and collective rituals that define Latvians. Being one of the first projects of its kind in Eastern Europe, Myself, Friends, Lovers and Others by Latvian photographer Arnis Balcus paints an intimate portrait of the first post-soviet generation and their everyday life around the Millennium. Most images were taken between 2000 and 2004, shot on an Olympus Mju II film camera. Photos in the book were taken with Olympus Mju II film camera in Latvia, as well as Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Lithuania, where the artist regurarly travelled or stayed in artist residencies..
