The LNER Class D40 was made up of the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNSR) Class V and Class F locomotives. Class V consisted of thirteen saturated locomotives built between 1899 and 1915, whilst Class F consisted of eight similar but superheated engines built in 1920-1. It operated in Aberdeenshire. The first section built was from Kittybrewster (one and a half miles outside Aberdeen) to Huntly which was opened in 1854.
