Utricularia gibba ( Figure 1) is a quick-growing aquatic species with a small 100 Mb genome. Its traps are about 1 mm across and only two cell layers thick, which make it easy to image and understand cellular interactions. It is also transformable so we can test the function of candidate genes throughout development.
