Cystic fibrosis (OMIM: #219700), a congenital disease with an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance, is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene (OMIM: *602421; cytogenetic location: 7q31.2) [].These mutations affect the function of the CFTR protein in ion channels in epithelial tissues, leading to unusually viscous secretions. Cells were prepared for flow cytometry analyses in accordance with Kabiri et al. and analysed on a FACS Calibur cytometer (Becton-Dickinson, San Jose, CA) with Win MDI 2.8 software.
