"Git gud" originated with Metal Gear Online. The meaning of the phrase has shifted slightly back and forth over time. When Dark Souls came out, a lot of threads were started on 4chan where people didn't understand the mechanics or mindset needed to play. As a response, people would just say "git gud". Git Gud is not simply advice, but a driving force for enjoying FROMSOFT games. One can for example exploit cheese, or endlessly summon help, or grind up their level to the point of making encounters trivial. But to remove difficulty and the need to "Git Gud" from these games in such a manner is to remove the primary thing that makes them special. I think Elden Ring has the worst implementation tbh, being able to summon players or spirits - being able to buy upgrade mats. and upgrade multiple weapons - no solo invasions - being able to choose your boss order to a higher degree than other games; all of these things combine Personally, I think the ultimate form of "git gud" is both reaction based and pattern recognition combined. If you know the patterns you can beat boss after n amount of tries to understand punish windows and predict an attacks hitbox.
