Kevo Strict Nature Reserve. In Kevo Strict Nature Reserve, you can experience the Lapland landscape at its most wondrous. There are two marked trails, along which hikers may explore the area. Both trails are quite demanding. The 40-km-long and at some places almost 80-metres-deep canyon-like valley of the River Kevojoki forms the core of the area. Kevo Strict Nature Reserve is divided into two areas; the canyon area and fell area. There are separate rules on hiking in the two areas. Canyon area: Hiking is permitted 15.6. - 15.10. only on marked trails. Skiing is permitted 16.10. - 31.3. in the entire canyon area. Entering the canyon area is completely forbidden 1.4. - 14.6. The trail takes 4-7 days to complete. The trail follows Kevo trail to the Ruktajávri hut but then heads north towards the Kuivi fell and enters the strict nature reserve near the fell. The Kevo Strict Nature Reserve was founded in 1956 for the purpose of preserving pristine nature and conducting scientific research, with research having been done in the area since the 1950s.
