Select the image you want to use. Right click it and select Cut, or press Ctrl X to cut it from the document. 2. Click on the shape. InDesign lets you easily paste the picture into the shape if you right click and select Paste Into. 3. You'll notice that the shape has formed a clipping mask for the image which is now inside. To create this effect you start with a Text Frame and type a word or phrase you want to place the image in. Make sure you adjust the Kerning before moving forward as it will be harder to change later. Next you need to select the Text Frame and head to Create Outlines through the Type menu. (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + O.) Your clipping mask in InDesign is done. Creating a clipping mask with a group of shapes It's when you have a group of shapes like the one in the image below that creating a clipping mask in InDesign becomes a little tricky. Create your shapes.
