The 19th century saw Frankfurt emerge as a modern city. Fiordland National Park is a national park in the south-west corner of South Island of New Zealand. It is the largest of the 13 national parks in New Zealand, with an area covering 12,607 km 2 (4,868 sq mi), and a major part of the Te Wāhipounamu a UNESCO World Heritage Site established in 1990. The park is administered by the Department of Conservation. Milford Sound goes one step further than that by being the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand, as well as one of the wettest places in the world. The area gets an average of 182 days of rainfall a year - over the course of 24 hours, this often means 250 millimetres (9.84 inches) of water pouring out of the skies. Not that this is a bad thing. Fiordland National Park, covering 12,607 km 2 (4,868 sq mi), is New Zealand 's largest national park with its snow-capped mountains, fiords and contains one of New Zealand's wildest and most dramatic landscapes.
