Dr. McCosker was a Senior Scientist and the first Chair of Aquatic Research at the California Academy of Sciences. He retired in 2014 and continues to occupy the chair in an emeritus capacity. From 1973 through 1994, he was Director of the Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco. He received his PhD in Marine Biology from the Scripps Institution of John McCosker, Chair of Aquatic Biology, says, "It was like finding a living T. rex. ".
