He gives special props to Metallica's James Hetfield, who was Mustaine's onetime bandmate during his tumultuous tenure in the band back in the early Eighties. Early on in his career, Mustaine says, "I devoted Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has given his first full interview since being diagnosed with throat cancer earlier this year. In speaking with Rolling Stone, the metal legend revealed how he first learned of the diagnosis, and discussed the outpouring of support he received from the metal community.. Recalling how he found out he had cancer, Mustaine noted, "I was on tour, and I just had Mustaine brought up the topic when he was asked if his "outspoken" reputation had hindered his career in any way. From there, he dove into an anecdote about the fraught conversation he had with Hetfield, and casually dropped in the little nugget that the two of them were planning something new together. As to what form such a Mustaine/Hetfield project would take, Mustaine does not say. The pair have shared the stage on a number of occasions, such as the Big Four tour in 2010 that put Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax on the same bill.
