Mark Cole. Growing up in the Delaware Valley I have been very much inspired by the landscape, the architecture, and the history. This is always the basis of my work, both traditional and abstract. I studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from West Chester University. The project involved storytelling sessions among the larger Chester community that resulted in a Cultural Asset Map, and eventually allowed the city and the Pennsylvania Humanities Council — a Tiny Chester, population around 34,000, is technically the oldest city in Pennsylvania, established by Swedish colonizers on Lenape land in 1644. William Penn himself, namesake founder of Pennsylvania, wouldn't arrive in the area until 1682, shortly afterward establishing the city of Philadelphia, a few miles upstream on the Delaware River.
