The son of a poor Jewish cantor, Goldmark studied violin in Vienna under Georg Böhm and theory under Gottfried Karl Goldmark was a self-taught composer whose formal music education actually focused on the violin. It's fitting, then, that his most performed and recorded work to this day is hisViolin Concerto No.1, which he completed in 1877.
