It's the largest off-road area in the California State Parks system. Ocotillo Wells is lovingly called "Rock-a-tillo" by the regulars due to the occasional rocks found on trails, washes and The SVRA Open Wheel World Challenge, honors homage to the 50th anniversary of Formula Ford racing and all of those who started their racing careers in them. This inaugural event could be the largest gathering of open wheel competition cars ever assembled. In addition to Formula Ford, any open wheel car, including Formula One, Formula 5000, Indy Ocotillo Wells SVRA has more than 85,000 acres of off-road exploration and connects with the Anza-Borrego State Park. There are no fees for camping or day use. The main camping areas are Quarry Road, Main Street, Holmes Camp, Hidden Valley Camp, Camping off Pole Line Road and 4x4 Training Area. This trail passes west to east through the heart of Ocotillo Wells SVRA and provides an introduction to the area. You'll get a feel for the obscure terrain and have access to many side roads of greater difficulty. The area is free and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Lots of camping with vault toilets. Pay showers at Holmes Camp and along Ocotillo Wells SVRA is OPEN. ⚠️ Please exercise caution as the ground is saturated from heavy rainfall and flooding. Terrain has changed.
