Litoria raniformis. Common names. Southern bell frog, Growling grass frog. Length: SVL: Males - up to 65mm; Females - ≥100mm. Weight: up to 50 grams. Call : Deep growling 3-4 syllable croak, similar to the green and golden bell frog, but raspier and not as drawn out.A large species of frog that can reach up to 10 cm in body length. It has a green- brown back, with brown or bronze patches, and sometimes a pale longitudinal stripe along the middle. There is also a cream-coloured stripe from behind the eye that widens along the sides, and often a dark brown stripe from the nostril to the eye. The belly is white. The pupil is horizontal and the iris is gold south-eastern NSW, the bulk of Victoria and Tasmania. The growling grass frog (Ranoidea raniformis), also commonly known as the southern bell frog, warty swamp frog and erroneously as the green frog, is a species of ground-dwelling tree frog native to southeastern Australia, ranging from southern South Australia along the Murray River though Victoria to New South Wales, with populations through Tasmania.
