The History of DTS. Youth With a Mission (YWAM) was founded in 1960 by Loren Cunningham. He had a vision of youth across the nation fulfilling the Great Commission in Mark 16:15. Discipleship training school became a powerful tool to achieve this goal, and soon YWAM became the largest mission organization in the world. What is a DTS, or a Discipleship Training School? Discipleship Training School is a five-month course in a live/learn community where you spend time getting The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is YWAM's entry-level training course for missions, established on the belief that "Knowing God" and "Making Him Known" go hand-in-hand. The goal is for individuals to learn how to live a lifestyle of missions, growing in their relationship with Jesus as they serve others in a cross-cultural context. The Discipleship Training School (DTS) was created to help you discover your place in fulfilling the Great Commission (Matt 28:16-20). YWAM DTS is an intense full-time program, lasting 6 months. You will start with 3 months of training phase before being launched out into the nations to share Jesus with the lost, broken and outcast. Located in the largest city in the Tohoku (North-East) region called Sendai, the DTS is located in the quiet suburbs of Ayashi. On one side is the Zao mountain range, on the other side is the bustling central downtown of Sendai. Further past downtown is the ocean. So mountains, forests, city, and ocean are all within easy access! 3 MONTHS. The first part of DTS is the lecture phase, or teaching/training phase - it can be called different things, but it's the first half of DTS and it's all about the mind and the heart. Lecture Phase takes place at YWAM's training center in Nuremberg, Germany.
